Willmott Dixon senior build manager, Gavin Coleman MCIOB, explains how a serious fire involving a charging unit was averted at one of the contractor’s construction sites last month.
A battery ignited while charging inside a VoltHub, a lithium-ion battery charging unit designed by tool storage manufacturer Armorgard. The unit’s proactive and reactive safety features, including an advanced fire suppression and containment technology called F.I.R.E.E, confined the fire in the locker, preventing its spread on site.
