Tarmac has started an eight-week trial of what it claims is the first all-electric tipper truck in the UK.
The company began developing the machine with electric truck manufacturer Tevva and vehicle body conversion specialist Brit-Tipp in 2022 as an alternative to fuelled HGV vehicles.
Assuming a use cycle of 130km a day (4,000km a month) and a consumption of 1.31kw/hour, the 7.5-tonne Tevva electric tipper truck is expected to save more than 2.2 tonnes of CO2 per month, compared to a diesel model of the same size.
