In pictures | Bridge lifted into place at Forge Island

A new pedestrian bridge has been lifted into place at Forge Island, Rotherham, linking the development in South Yorkshire with the town centre.

The 46m-long bridge, weighing 86 tonnes, was manufactured and installed by S H Structures, a specialist in the design and manufacture of complex steel structures.

A crane was erected and rigged over two days to prepare for the installation of the bridge. The operation took one hour “in a military precision operation”, said placemaker Muse.
