New home registrations climbed just 1% in 2019, despite government targets to build 300,000 homes a year.
The total number of new homes registered in 2019 was 161,022, according to new figures from NHBC. The figures relate to homes registered to homes registered with the NHBC for its 10-year warranty, which covers around 80% of all new homes built in the UK.
The slow increase was a result of the 3% decline in the number of new homes registered in the private sector during the year, which fell to 112,086.
