Mace wins City of London ‘green’ tower job

Real estate developer Hertshten Properties has appointed Mace as the construction partner of 85 Gracechurch Street, a 30-storey mixed-use tower in the heart of the City of London.
The Woods Bagot-designed scheme will replace a 1930s office building, with the new tower containing 22,000 sq m of office space and an events area with a 270-degree terrace.
Mace said that the building is "set to become one of the greenest tall buildings in London". Sustainability features include energy-efficient mechanical systems, extensive urban greening, natural ventilation and 440 cycle parking spaces, including an automated cycle hub for visitors.

The site is located within the Leadenhall Conservation Area and adjacent to the Grade II Listed Leadenhall Market. Excavations have revealed "substantial remains" of London's first Roman Basilica, which will be displayed in situ.
