Housebuilders will need to set delivery timeframes before getting planning permission under government proposals announced today (25 May).

Under the new rules, housebuilders will have to submit annual reports showing their progress to councils to keep them on track.

The plans are part of the government’s commitment to build 1.5 million new homes by 2029.

Councils will also get new powers to penalise developers that repeatedly fail to build out consented sites or use planning permissions to trade land speculatively.
