Dame Judith Hackitt
Dame Judith Hackitt will advise the government on the creation of a new Building Safety Regulator, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced.
Hackitt, who oversaw a review into Building Regulations and fire safety in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster, will provide independent advice to the government on how to set up the new body.
The Regulator will oversee the design and management of buildings, with a focus on ensuring the new regime for higher-risk buildings is robust. It will also have the power to apply criminal sanctions to building owners who do not obey the new regime.
