Excavation work exposed staff at one of logistics company Eddie Stobart’s sites to asbestos.

The firm has received a £133,000 fine for a series of failures during the excavation work at its rail and container freight port in Widnes.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that no asbestos survey had been carried out. The workers involved had not received any training in relation to asbestos, and Eddie Stobart failed to report the incident correctly.
