Costain has collaborated with traffic technology company Swarco to develop and install a new generation of digital road message signs.
The new signs use high-resolution colour optical technology which enable clearer messages and graphics to be displayed in all weather conditions. And they can display live video pictures of congestion on the road ahead, which may be provided to road users in the future.
Costain also claimed that the signs were more cost effective and easier to maintain because fewer materials and less cabling have been used in their construction.
