Dockerill was a fellow and longstanding member of the CIOB.

He was also a wonderful advocate for the next generation of construction professionals and the encouragement he gave to young people to pursue their careers is something that I greatly admired and appreciated.

She added: “He was respected and liked by everyone that he met and always arrived at our meetings with a smile and a willingness to help in any way. He will be much missed and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.”
Paul’s son, James, said: “The CIOB meant so much to my dad, who scaled the grading from member, fellow to trustee. He was also a subscriber and avid reader of Construction Management magazine, reading each and every single page in great detail.”
‘Passion for making a difference’
Paul most recently worked as director of energy and programme management at Midlands housing provider whg, having worked in social housing for over 20 years. In that role he led on whg’s approach to the ‘Building a Safer Future’ agenda, as well as its energy strategy.
He was also chair of whg’s Fire Safety Group, which worked to reassure customers about fire safety following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Starting his career as an apprentice carpenter and joiner, he later joined Birmingham-based builder William Sapcote, working on a range of projects, including major restoration work on numerous historic buildings.
He also served as a regional director for Thomas Vale, which delivered homes under the Decent Homes programme. It was through this work that he discovered what he described as “a passion for making a positive difference to people’s lives through social housing”.
Paul’s funeral will take place on 22 November 2022. The service will be held at 10:45am at Streetly Crematorium - 296 Little Hardwick Rd, Walsall WS9 0SG
A celebration of his life will take place from 12:30pm at Aston Villa Football Club in the 82 Lounge (Trinity Road Entrance).

James Dockerill added: “The whole family would dearly love for everybody to attend to celebrate the wonderful life of Paul. We also ask that people wear a small element of claret and blue if possible.”
