Cemex mothballs South Ferriby cement plant

Cemex is to mothball its South Ferriby cement plant in north Lincolnshire, with the loss of around 110 jobs.

The majority of redundancies are set to take place in July. The plant, which has been owned by Cemex since 2005 and has been in existence since 1938, had already suffered problems in recent years after it was forced to halt production for 13 months after flooding in December 2013.

The latest decision to halt production is thought to be related to a drop in demand following the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.
