Before her tenure at CIOB, Gumble had an extensive business transformation career within the engineering industry, both in the UK and overseas.
Former roles include a five-year stint at Make UK, formerly the Engineering Employers’ Federation, where she was chief operating officer between 2014 and 2019.

Gumble holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from The Open University. She was awarded a Doctor of Science honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton and is also a visiting professor at Loughborough University.
She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade, where she also serves as a non-executive director on the board of trustees. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Dynamic leadership style
The Welding Institute is a professional membership, research and technology organisation providing support across all aspects of welding, joining, surface engineering, inspection and wholelife integrity management.
Headquartered in Cambridge, it employs 800 staff and serves around 550 industrial member companies globally.
