The wellbeing village will include 107 community living apartments for older people that can be rented from the council, and 128 homes for sale on the open market for other age groups.
It will also have a medical centre, a community hub, a working area and outdoor spaces, including a sports area, community gardens and allotments. Existing wooded areas have been retained and enhanced.
A council spokesperson said: “Michaelston Wellbeing Village is one of the most exciting schemes within our housing development programme, delivering much-needed, affordable housing for older people, as well as new homes for sale in the area.”
Stuart Jones, regional development director at Wates Residential, said: “This new wellbeing village – the city’s first – represents another milestone in our partnership [with Cardiff Council], and we look forward to creating another vibrant community supporting the wellbeing of all residents.”
