Buckingham starts new Oval cricket stand build

Contractor Buckingham Group has started work on the construction of a new stand at the Kia Oval cricket ground in London.

The construction of the new £26m stand, called One Oval Square, is due to be completed in mid 2021.

The new development will see a new three-tier stand built between the Micky Stewart Members’ Pavilion and the Peter May stand, with facilities for conferences, events and hospitality.

The scheme has been designed by architects Rolfe Judd, who designed the Peter May stand, which opened in 2015.

As part of the construction of the new stand, two additional tiers of seating will “float” over the Peter May stand and connect through to the Micky Stewart Pavilion, which will have one room added to make the building symmetrical when viewed from the pitch at the Vauxhall End.

The new stand will also include two further roof terraces and will increase capacity of the ground to nearly 28,000.
