Nadhim Zahawi
Prime minister Boris Johnson’s government has confirmed the appointment of Nadhim Zahawi as the new construction minister.
Zahawi’s role is officially parliamentary under secretary of state, minister for business and industry, within the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.
- Esther McVey appointed as minister of state for housing
- Housing secretary James Brokenshire out of Boris Johnson’s new cabinet
Zahawi, MP for Stratford-on-Avon since 2010, will cover a number of areas, including:
- Industrial Strategy delivery
- Sector Deals – sectoral lead on advanced manufacturing, materials (including steel) and infrastructure and construction
- supply chains
- local growth
- better regulation and regulatory reform
His appointment came after a recent reshuffle which saw Robert Jenrick replace James Brokenshire as the secretary of state for the Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and former GMTV presenter Esther McVey made minister of state for housing.
