BoKlok modular flats will be demolished, Skanska says

A block of flats built by modular company BoKlok in West Sussex is to be demolished because of storm damage.
Skanska, which owns BoKlok in a joint venture with Swedish retail giant Ikea, said the building in Worthing would be dismantled due to safety concerns.
Block 5 at Fulbeck Avenue in Worthing is part of a £12.6m Vivid development comprising 72 modular homes.

Christoffer Hallersbro, BoKlok UK regional director said: “During the winter of 2023/24, Block 5 at Fulbeck Avenue suffered significant storm damage. Unfortunately, poor weather conditions and high winds prevented the timely installation of the roof and temporary weatherproofing measures proved insufficient to safeguard the structure.
“The building has undergone a thorough investigation and to safeguard the long-term safety of the site, the difficult decision has been made to dismantle the building. The quality of our homes, as well as the safety and wellbeing of our customers, is our highest priority.
“The dismantling process will prioritise sustainability and health and safety, minimising the impact on neighbouring homes whilst targeting a goal of recycling 95% of materials.”
BoKlok has more than 20 years’ experience in delivering 15,000 modular homes in the Nordic region. It expanded into the UK in 2019.
