229,000 construction workers remain on furlough

Some 229,000 construction workers remained on the governments Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (also known as furlough), according to the latest official figures.

Data from HMRC showed that there had been a slight decline in the number of furloughed workers up to the end of February this year at 229,200, down from 245,700 as of 31 January 2021.

The number of furloughed construction workers peaked on 14 April with 723,600. That figure fell to 169,700 by 30 November, before rising again over the Christmas period and the start of a new lockdown in early 2021.
