UK’s first female rig driver lands HS2 role

HS2 has welcomed the UK’s first female rig driver as part of its commitment to encourage more women into construction roles

Natalie Smith (pictured) previously worked as a forklift driver in warehouse operations. Despite securing a promotion, she decided to pursue a career in construction. 

Smith joined SB3 – the Bachy Soletanche and Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering joint venture, leading the foundation works for HS2 in the West Midlands – as part of its piling operative training programme.
