The University College of Estate Management (UCEM) has been rebranded as the University of the Built Environment (UBE), following consultation with students, staff, alumni, and industry partners.
According to the university, the rebrand reflects its commitment to meeting the UK’s long-term built environment skills needs. It is estimated that more than 250,000 extra construction workers will be needed by 2028 to meet demand.
Commenting on the announcement, Ashley Wheaton, vice chancellor at UBE, said the institution will play a key role in helping to overcome the challenges the industry is facing across housing, sustainability, core infrastructure, safety, and net zero.
