North Yorkshire centre of excellence to attract new talent into digital

Global tech company Causeway Technologies has invested £1.5m on a centre for engineering excellence in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, creating 100 jobs.
Located on the top floor of the One Centre Square development, Causeway chose to base the centre in Middlesbrough to improve links with local universities and its access to the North East tech talent pool.
The firm will be recruiting for software developers, product managers, quality assurance managers and customer support. Chief technology officer, Charlie Pickering, said the move will help the firm achieve the “significant amount of development planned” in the months ahead.

Pickering said it was important to invest in the UK, in line with the government’s wider levelling up agenda. While the firm already had a smaller office in the town, the new centre would allow it to recruit more people and create a “better space” for greater collaboration between engineers and project teams.
He added: “When it comes to technology, the construction industry needs to improve. Part of that is about continuing to invest in and develop new solutions, and that requires the best and brightest to join the sector.
“By working closely with local universities, we can bring people into our sector instead of seeing them go into other technology focused industries instead.”
Causeway founder and chair Phil Brown said the strong talent pool in the North East is economically viable in comparison to the offshore tech hubs in eastern Europe and India. “For Causeway this means we will create new jobs and bring jobs back to Britain,” he added.
The new centre is part of Causeway’s strategic aim to connect every stage of the construction process with technology.
