Building Equality has doubled in size since 2017’s Manchester Pride, with more senior leadership visibility and more than 100 representatives from 18 different organisations taking part.

On Friday of the August bank holiday weekend at Exchange Square Manchester, hundreds of members of the public enjoyed a photo opportunity with a “rainbow” JCB and had the opportunity to find out more about Building Equality’s work to make construction a more diverse and inclusive sector as well as to discuss careers and opportunities.
In Saturday’s weekend showcase celebration, Building Equality was joined by sponsors Flannery, A-Plant and Hays to march together alongside the rainbow JCB to help increase awareness of LGBT+ employees working in the industry.
Established in 2015, by Arup, Balfour Beatty and Lendlease Building Equality has grown to 23 firms, with Costain, Mace, Ramboll and Willmott Dixon Interiors joining in the last year. The aim of the group is to encourage an open and tolerant environment in the industry, reducing stress and anxiety among the LGBT+ community and allowing all talents to flourish.
Building Equality was also in action this year at Newcastle, Leeds, Student and London Pride – where 20 firms came together for the fourth year running.
