Nearly 70% of UK adults avoid construction careers

Call for industry leaders to help change the perception of jobs in construction

New YouGov research shows 68% of UK adults would not consider a career in construction, with some viewing the industry as ‘dirty’, ‘strenuous’ and ‘boring’.

The Construction Deconstructed report, commissioned by not-for-profit organisation Deconstruction, shows that 60% of men would not consider a career in the industry, with the figure rising to 76% for women.

The research, taken from a sample of 2,083 nationally representative respondents, aims to highlight the recruitment and retention challenges facing the industry.
