Attendees will be given an overview of the government-sponsored BIM Toolkit, which will see NBS create a new unified classification system and digital plan of work, and encouraged to comment on the project’s progress.
The Digital Toolkit is a free-to-use online service that allows BIM model data to be uploaded, then checked to ensure it has right level of geometric detail and technical information.

Stephen Hamil, head of BIM at NBS said: “This free resource will guide users through the construction process and we’re looking forward to users getting a first look and hearing their feedback on how we can continue to develop and improve the toolkit.
“The NBS-led team has been working hard to ensure the BIM Toolkit is easy to use and offers step-by-step support to define, manage and validate responsibility for information development and delivery at each stage of the asset lifecycle,” he continued.
Alongside this preview the NBS will be running a series of seminars led by technical experts such as Dale Sinclair, director of technical practice at AECOM, Mark Bew, chairman of the government’s BIM Task Group and Steve Lockley, Professor of Building Modelling at Northumbria University.

will also be available at a “genius bar”.
Described as a “drop-in centre”, the genius bar area will allow members of the Ecobuild public to have one-to-one chats with some of the UK’s leading BIM experts. The building specification body’s Daniel Welsh, Ian Chapman, Jonathan Evans, Stefan Mordue, Stephen Hamil and Chris Okure will be on hand to field questions on anything from BIM basics to more technical questions from those already using BIM in anger.
The NBS staff will be joined on the genius bar by architects, designers, engineers, surveyors and facilities managers, as well as speakers from the seminar and workshop programmes.
Ian Chapman, director of the NBS National BIM Library explained: “According to our research, lack of in-house expertise is one of the biggest barriers to successful adoption. Cross-discipline adoption and ownership of BIM is only going to be achieved through better understanding and training. At Ecobuild 2015 we will be in the final countdown to the government mandate on BIM. The industry has a lot to do to be ready.”
