Contractors Mace and Brookfield Multiplex have joined a number of construction companies in becoming BIM Level 2 verified by business standards company BSI.
Mace and Brookfield join the five companies that already have BIM certification as PAS 1192-compliant from BSI: Skanska, BAM, Balfour Beatty, Bechtel and Volker Fitzpatrick.
All have been verified by the standards body using its recently launched BIM scheme, PAS 1192-2 Information Management for the capital/delivery phase of construction projects, a move that could benefit them in tendering for public sector projects subject to the level 2 BIM mandate.

BAM and Skanska were confirmed as Level 2 certified in December, while the other three contractors were added last week. According to BSI, this group will soon be joined by Tier 2 contractors and design consultants.
Andy Butterfield, global head of construction for the body, told BIM+: “Those five now become seven with Mace and Brookfield Multiplex having just been awarded certification.
“Beyond that we are also working with an extensive pipeline of companies at various stages in the process. Those seven are the main ones but there are a number of others, not just larger companies but SMEs, architects, designers, all manner of companies in various stages of the process.
“It’s fair to say that the first Tier 2 company will also be awarded certification shortly,” he added.
Butterfield also said that BSI was working with several organisations based in the Middle East and Asia.
The BSI standard sets out how to share information on BIM projects and lists the requirements for design and construction BIM Level 2.
