Leica launches TS20 robotic total station with edge AI

Leica Geosystems has launched the new TS20 robotic total station with edge AI.
The TS20 features AI-powered target search and automatic target recognition, enabling it to automatically search, aim and measure even in adverse weather, like rain or mist, or when working with reflective tapes.
The AI-Detect feature recognises the target type and alerts surveyors when their target does not match the type they selected in the software. After the launch, AI-Follow will be available as a software update. This feature saves time by following the Leica AP20 AutoPole even when the line of sight is interrupted.

The TS20 has mobile internet connectivity for data sharing and IoT connectivity, and a new electronic distance measurement system that delivers distances with higher frequency.
Another feature, exclusive to the TS20, is the GeoCloud Protect system, which allows remote location and locking of devices. It means TS20 operators can access the total station’s location on a map and, in case of theft, mark it stolen and lock the instrument so it cannot be used or serviced.
