HoloLens used for first time in construction and engineering

Aecom has piloted the use of the Microsoft’s mixed reality headset, the HoloLens, on three construction projects, including this year’s Serpentine Pavilion in London.

According to the global consultancy, this is the first time that the technology, which adds holograms of 3D objects into a user’s view allowing interaction with these virtual objects as if they were present, has been used in engineering or construction.

The pilot projects are a collaboration with software vendor Trimble, that has created mixed-reality solutions that allow Aecom to feed 3D engineering models of large or complex projects into the HoloLens world.
