The first subcontractor has been verified as being able to provide Tier 2 services as BIM certification continues to take hold in the UK.
M&E contractor the Harvey Group has been certified to PAS 1192-2 information management for the capital/delivery phase of construction projects as a Tier 2 organisation.
The accreditation, from business standards company BSI, verifies that the subcontractor has provided evidence of its eligibility to supply services for Level 2 BIM projects to main contractors.

Harvey Group, along with architect, AHR which was already certified to provide Tier 1 services, are the first to be certified to deliver BIM as Tier 2 organisations by BSI.
A growing number of businesses within the construction industry are gaining certification, with BRE, BSI, Lloyd’s Register and Ocean all offering verification schemes.
Andy Butterfield, product certification director of built environment at BSI, said: “BIM is becoming increasingly vital for those working in the construction industry and not just for main contractors but for those within their supply chain also.
“Organisations must be able to demonstrate how BIM-ready they are in order to be considered for commercial projects both now and in the future,” he continued. “Those main contractors who wish to better manage their supply chain, will require subcontractors to demonstrate their capability to deliver projects using BIM, and we’re delighted to have been able to support Harvey Group and AHR in doing so.”

To achieve the certification Harvey Group and AHR had to be independently assessed by BSI whereby they had to demonstrate that they adhere to the requirements of the PAS 1192-2 standard. This includes an onsite audit which assessed the documented procedures and systems for all processes in PAS 1192-2, which also includes compliance with BS 1192 and BS 1192-4, and the competency of staff.
Each assessment varies depending on an organisation’s role within the supply chain and the tier. There are many different roles within the supply chain, such as structural engineers, architects and contractors and the information they supply and how this must be managed will vary. These variations are reflected in the certificate scopes that BSI issues.
