The partnership is part of the Access to Homebuilding initiative to attract new entrants to the construction industry.
The pilot scheme, which will also help to upskill the existing workforce, is the latest initiative CITB has announced as part of its commitment to supporting the government’s target to build 1.5 million new homes.

CITB’s Construction Workforce Outlook report forecasts that approximately 150 extra bricklayers and groundworkers will be needed in the East Midlands each year for the next four years to meet demand.
Addressing the skills shortage
The new pilot scheme will see three different four to six-week intensive courses take place at the Construction Skills Hub at Mastin Moor, Chesterfield.
Located within a live 650-unit housing development, the courses provide an opportunity for practical learning and working directly with employers.
The three courses are:
- A four-week intensive bricklaying course (for unemployed people aged 18 and over).
- A six-week bricklaying upskilling programme for labourers (one day a week, for people aged 18 and over).
- A six-week groundworks upskilling programme for labourers (one day a week, for people aged 18 and over).
