The report revealed that more than a quarter of respondents (27%) said they had experienced suicidal thoughts over the past year.
“Every day, 17 people take their own lives, with 12 of those being men. This creates a very urgent need to address the barriers that prevent men from speaking out about their struggles,” said Tough To Talk founder, Steve Whittle.
In partnership with Dynamic, Tough To Talk is targeting male-centric workplaces, highlighting some of the critical issues which can lead to suicidal thoughts, including stress, financial difficulties, relationship problems, and more.
One of the first modules created is a tailored digital resource for Balfour Beatty Vinci, which focuses on gambling, with more resources planned for other construction firms.
Pete Johnson, project manager at Dynamic, commented: “Tough To Talk's materials are totally adaptable, easy to roll out and can be tailored to different issues and organisations.
“More and more companies are realising not just the ethics of investing in mental health education, but the value, too. It's not only great for individuals, it’s just good business, too.
“In terms of getting this material in front of men, they can undertake each module at their own convenience, in their own time, on any device – and in privacy. It's a great medium in which to communicate some vital, life-saving messages."
