Proposed British standard aims to ensure PPE is accessible and effective for a broader range of workers
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has provided an update on its plans to establish a new British standard for inclusive PPE.
BSI will unveil a draft standard for public consultation during a virtual event on 12 February (10:00-10:30 GMT).
The webinar will bring together key stakeholders from a range of industries and sectors, including construction, where the use of PPE helps to protect the workforce from occupational hazards.

The event will outline the main elements of the draft standard, highlight the importance of inclusive PPE, and guide stakeholders on how they can provide feedback through the public consultation process.
The proposed inclusive PPE standard follows collaboration between BSI and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to explore the views and experience of ill-fitting PPE across various sectors.
Commenting on LinkedIn, former CIOB president Sandi Rhys Jones said the draft standard marks a “great start to the New Year”.
Rhys Jones spearheaded the launch of CIOB’s #PPEthatfits campaign to highlight the lack of inclusive PPE in construction.
She added: “[I’m] delighted to be part of the constructive group #PPEthatfits that started this initiative, a collaborative project that includes all sectors needing to ensure everyone is provided with properly fitting protective clothing.”
