Speakers at the BIM4Village will include Neil Thompson, head of digital research and innovation at Balfour Beatty, presenting BIM4Fitout’s Bid4free project alongside project partner Josef Dobos of 3D Repo.
Allister Lewis, a senior architect at Hampshire County Council, and Mike Turpin, head of BIM at Capita Property and Infrastructure, will present on the local authority perspective on behalf of BIM4Clients
On the issue of collaboration, speakers include Chrissi McCarthy, managing director of Constructing Equality, who will discuss “Digital Diversity – why do people matter to a digital industry?”
McCarthy told BIM+: “BIM is a programme, but it’s also a mindset. We have to understand how to create teams with lots of different people. If there’s a joint venture over a number of years, for instance, I think you would want to get together and discuss some issues – around communication, processes and understanding people’s roles – at the beginning.”
And Elizabeth Kavanagh, head of HR and research and innovation at architect Stride Treglown, will provide an update on the Behaviours4Collaboration project, featured in BIM+ in July.
Kavanagh told BIM+ that the “profession map”, a description of attitudes and behaviours found in teams and workplaces, has been further developed since the summer. The map can be used to profile the attributes of team members and offer feedback throughout the project.
“It can be used as a one-to-one tool, or a team coaching tool throughout the project, to help team members develop their collaboration capability,” she explained. “Behavioural assessments are a way of supporting the team, but might also be part of selecting it in the first place.”
The map is currently a paper-based document, but the project team is hoping to secure funding to create an app. It is also looking for project teams to trial the methodology to fine-tune the criteria in advance of publication.
The BIM4Village programme will also include seminars presented by BIM4SMEs, BIM4Housing, BIM4Infrastructure, BIM4Water, Construction IT Alliance, BIM for Manufacturers and Manufacturing, BIM4FitOut, BIM in Education and the BIM2050 group.
Digital Construction Week, on 20-22 October at London’s Business Design Centre, will also feature an exhibition, a conference programme, and a seminar theatre programme.
