With eight weeks to go until the government’s BIM mandate takes effect in England, BIM+ is inviting clients, contractors, architects, specialist contractors, engineers and consultants to take part in a five-minute BIM survey.
The industry-wide survey aims to benchmark the penetration of BIM into the industry’s workload, the outcomes it is delivering and whether the BIM mandate – which takes effect on 4 April – is likely to be reverberate across the industry or only have limited impact.

Since the survey went live on Tuesday it has had an extremely positive response, and BIM+ hopes to make it one of the most comprehensive and representative surveys undertaken in the sector.
All those that take part in the survey will be able to enter into a draw to win one of three John Lewis vouchers worth £100.
Elaine Knutt, editor of BIM+ said: “The industry is reaching the culmination point of five years’ preparation for BIM. However, it is still unclear how the mandate will play out, and to what extent the industry has adopted this new way of working.
“This survey is an opportunity to discover what is actually happening underneath all the chatter that surrounds BIM, and gain an objective picture of the present state of BIM in the industry.”
The 14-question survey aims to establish:
- the scale of BIM roll out so far, and the volume and value of projects using BIM;
- the prevalence of BIM requirements in tender opportunities;
- the industry’s familiarity with the “Eight Pillars of BIM”;
- the industry’s confidence in delivering Level 2 BIM;
- how much evidence there is to support claims made around BIM.
The full results of the survey will be featured in the April edition of Construction Manager, along with the findings from a series of in-depth telephone interviews with BIM clients. This research will also be available as a separate White Paper.
