Women in BIM wants to hear from BIM professionals about salaries and job roles and definitions for its global work survey. The organisation said: "We are collecting information about how jobs are structured and titled in relation to the work that practitioners are doing, and how this work is remunerated with a particular focus on digital and technology-based jobs." The deadline is mid-July.
The Local Council Roads Innovation Group in partnership with the Crown Commercial Service has launched a framework for its members to procure innovative technologies and services at pace and scale. The first category to launch is highway surface treatment innovations. Other categories will follow in time.

Dr Marzia Bolpagni steps up at nima
Dr Marzia Bolpagni has become an international ambassador for nima. She is associate director, head of BIM international at Mace. Dr Bolpagni said: "Our sector is responsible of 40% emissions of CO2. The use of structured and reliable data is key to redefine the boundaries of ambition and face the climate change. We need the contribution of all at global scale to be successful.
"As nima ambassador, I am keen to keep influencing, connecting, supporting, and transforming the built environment using information management in an ethical way for the public good.”
T&T bolsters digital services
Turner & Townsend has made two senior digital appointments. Dr Ade Awonaike has joined as director of data and analytics in the company’s real estate team. Meanwhile Christopher Frost is appointed as director of data and analytics to support infrastructure clients.
With a strong background in geo-sciences, geographical information systems and data science, Dr Awonaike has previously worked for some of the UK’s leading property and infrastructure companies including Legal & General, Thames Water and Southern Water.
Frost joins from EY, where he served as data and technology lead for enterprise risk management.
nPlan shortlisted for engineering award
nPlan's AI-based forecasting and risk management tool has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Engineering 2023 MacRobert Award, which celebrates engineers who develop world-changing technological innovations that demonstrate commercial success and tangible social benefits. Dev Amratia, co-founder and CEO of nPlan, said: “Our AI continues to learn from construction and infrastructure plans every day so the insights we’re able to provide to project teams across the world are only getting more valuable.”
AI mentoring tool wins funding
An AI mentoring tool developed by a former construction worker has received a £50,000 grant from Innovate UK, reports CIOB People. Fran Boorman developed the mentoring platform Wowment to facilitate mentoring partnerships between construction workers and minority groups within local communities. The platform will then use AI to provide data and evidence to record the social impact construction workers are making.
BCIS appoints new CDO
The Building Cost Information Service has appointed Karl Horton as its new chief data officer. A priority for Horton will be developing new products and services that help customers make more informed choices about costs and carbon accounting on construction projects.
He previously worked as a QS before moving into data-led roles. He has partnered with several businesses and organisations including National Highways, the Department for Transport and Network Rail, helping to support data-driven decision-making on various projects.
NBS launches Chorus for academia
NBS has launched a version of its specification platform NBS Chorus for universities and colleges. The educational Chorus edition includes all the platform’s current content and unlimited licenses so that every student can access a ‘seat’. In addition, to foster a collaborative, multi-generational learning culture among users, the licence includes a programme of ‘train the trainer’ support.
